The top 5 best gifts! I have put these in categories. I wish I could remember more. I’m thinking about it. Let me just say that it is perfectly fine to buy off lists, or ask people what they want. It is fine for families to keep it simple and draw names. I still think gift cards are great, these lists are just if you want to mix it up! All in Advent fun!
Personal triumphs of things I gave to other people:
- My cousin is a big music person. Once at Barnes and Noble in the clearance bin, I found a marked down book of musicians talking about their favorites songs. He didn't put it down all Christmas Eve and he ignored a lot of other expensive gifts!
- I had a girlfriend paint a picture of my children for my husband. She loves that one of her paintings is hanging in a professor's office.
- I bought my brother-in-law a dart board. My sister said he played with it for two hours.
- I'm going to count this-any time you give someone a Far Side book, they are going to laugh!
- My grandparents-I don’t know jack about sports, but they are Atlanta Braves fans and they sure did love that model of Turner Field.
Generics that are good to give-trust me nobody wants bird thermometers or singing fish:
- If you are going to give the hand soaps, I vote for the kitchen ones. Then everyone in the house can wash their hands with it.
- I love those baskets you can buy at Walmart or Target, my favorite ones have been the pancake mixes, hot teas, and movie nights. You can always get creative and make your own baskets. Again, think about who you are buying for. Non-violent, quiet people aren't going to want the Quentin Tarrantino collection. Now I'm inspired!
- Puzzles are OK, but board games are better for family games!
- Pot holders, towels, and mugs will always be used.
- If they collect anything, they will love a magnet of it-assuming the fridge is magnetized.
The best gifts I ever personally received:
- A loom so I could make my own pot holders and table runners.
- Barbie's town house with a pulley elevator.
- A trip to Disneyworld (brochure in my stocking).
- A crystal necklace of positive energy.
- My husband-he came to visit me in Barcelona before we were engaged!
Enjoy your last minute shopping-although only the quacks like me are still out there doing it. The good little mommies are all wrapping it up!
